In order to preserve and enhance the value of these datasets distortion modelling was undertaken to map the relationship of the new spatially accurate digital cadastre to the old, inaccurate version. Having rigorously verified the validity of the model the distortion model was then delivered to Council such that it could be applied to existing datasets thereby re-creating the same relationship. By this process existing, relatively mapped datasets now had immensely more value – if their relative mapping was accurate in the first instance, by preserving the relationship and attaching this relationship to the new spatially accurate digital cadastre they too became spatially accurate!
